Meet Our Newest Colombian Women Artisans!

Carolina Locker

Meet Janiris, Martha, Judy, and Nina, our newest Colombian women artisans!

Meet Janiris, Martha, Judy, and Nina, our newest Colombian women artisans!

It is with great honor that we introduce the newest members of our artisan team!  Meet Janiris, Judy, and Nina, three women living in Bogota, Colombia with a desire to step out of their comfort zone and master the craft of making handmade jewelry, entirely from fruit!  Lead by our lead artisan Martha (pictured in the blue necklace above), these talented artisans underwent months of hands-on instruction, perfecting our method of hand crocheted organic jewelry, spanning all items showcased in our store, across all 7 categories of fruit.  As the women progressed from larger fruit types and simple designs to our finer, more decadent line of cantaloupe seeds jewelry, they gained confidence and became illuminated by the daily challenge and end reward of their toil, literally reaping the "fruit" of their labor.  Through their endeavor, many of the women realized for the first time they can do something productive outside of the home, earn money, and provide for their family, all the while transforming fruit and seeds into wearable works of art.  The beauty inherent in our jewelry is plain to see, but our greater mission is to reveal the inner beauty of our Colombian women artisans and the lives they lead, as we share their story with the rest of the world.

Colombian Girl Jewelry is devoted to creating economic opportunities for Colombian women artisans through sustainable work practices, and to empower them in their mission to bring "jewelry made from fruit" to women all across the globe, uniting women across cultural and geographic barriers.  Please help us to spread the word as we continue to support and empower more women like Janiris, Judy, and Nina.  YOUR PURCHASE MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

It's Finally Here, Our First "Official Video!"

Carolina Locker

Our 1st offical video was released today!!!  Completely shot on-site in the mountains of Colombia, and filled with the musical sounds and voices of a young Colombian band called Makana (song titled "Mi Tierra"), we hope the video allows you to experience the beauty of our jewelry, as well as the beauty of the people, music, and landscape of Colombia first-hand!

Telling someone it's "jewelry made from fruit" is one thing, but showing how the jewelry is literally scooped out, dried, dyed, and tediously crocheted together by our dedicated Colombian women artisans, gives it all new meaning.  Please watch our video to learn more about this gorgeously exotic product and the real reason we find ourselves in this line of business, whole heartedly bent on empowering the women artisans who create it, in an eco-friendly and sustainable manner.
