“an ensemble of color on a palette of seeds and fruit.”
“The Real Colombian Girl”
On the outskirts of Bogota, Colombia, an ordinary group of women living on the same block experimented with incorporating natural fruit and seeds into jewelry, using simple hand-sewn crochet techniques. The women were nameless and faceless but their result earned global acclaim, now known as “organic jewelry” or “eco-chic jewelry,” changing the face of women’s fashion in Colombia and Europe, and finally making its grand arrival here in the United States, with the inception of “Colombian Girl Jewelry.”
Our collection is unique because of its all-natural, 100% organic source, produced from seeds and fruit found in the Amazon Rainforest of Colombia. But beyond the jewelry, it is the artisans behind the scene producing it by hand, one seed at a time, that are at the heart of our business. “Colombian Girl Jewelry” is just that, jewelry crafted by a Colombian Girl, most of who are single mothers or young women without an opportunity for higher education, united in community by their special craft. The jewelry they produce represents more than a job, for them it is an art – an ensemble of color on a palette of seeds and fruit – and with it they are taken to new heights, above their overcrowded block in Bogota, to a place where they have a name and their face is finally recognized.
